Teaching nonfiction writing?
Custom search finds you reliable sources

icons of web browsers you can use to search for teaching writing resources

As I search for information, I've saved links to sources I found valuable. Those links have blossomed into a specialized tool that will scour the world wide web for research-based information focuses on nonfiction writing for teachers of teens and adults.

whole web search

When you use this CSE, Google® will begin by searching sites I identified as reliable sources of information about teaching nonfiction writing to teens and adults, including:

  • JSTOR,
  • ERIC,
  • Google Scholar,
  • What Works Clearinghouse,
  • WorldCat,
  • Professional organizations' websites (e.g. NCTE, MLA)
  • .edu websites
  • You-Can-Teach-Writing.com

Results from those sites will be shown at the top of the results. Results from other sites will appear lower down in the results list.

Searcher discretion is advised

Because a page appears near the top of the results does not necessarily mean it is about teaching nonfiction writing to teens and adults. It could be about teaching first graders if that page is on a website that houses good information about teaching nonfiction writing to teens and adults.

Create no-bore classrooms

Good teaching occurs halfway between being an entertainer and being a wet blanket.

Examine the most boring parts of your curriculum for opportunities to introduce something unexpected. Just because you cannot make learning to write fun doesn't mean you have to make it boring.
